When we moved to Michigan in July, three of our four Black Labs moved with us and one stayed back in Aiken with our daughter, Kelliann. Maggie, aged 13, stayed behind as Snickers, Big Red and Mackenzie made the move to Michigan’s Great Southwest. Maggie, like me, has some arthritis issues and we were sure that she would not be able to navigate the many steps she would need to if she came with us. Frankly, we thought the end was getting near for her. I even posted a story about her almost a year ago. Another Last Christmas.
One thing we didn’t take into account was that she was going to be pampered and doted on by family and friends. She no longer had to share the attention with her three siblings and continues to be the sweet, 70 pound dog she has always been.
This picture was taken the other day while she was wading in a pond in our old neighborhood in Aiken, SC, temperature in the mid 60’s. In my opinion, it is one of the best pictures ever taken of her and really captures her personality.
She goes for rides in the car, hangs out at Starbucks, enjoys “pup-cups” and gets to visit with lots of people who shower her with love and attention..
Meanwhile, her siblings were walking around in the rainy, mid-30’s weather of Michigan.
Here comes another Christmas Maggie. Hang in there.

Pictures like this make me happy, especially as our Freckles, a lab mix, just turned 11 and we’re hoping for several more b-days to celebrate!

We have one lab, adopted one from our son, and occasionally take in his other lab. My 12 year old Dickens is noticeably different when the other two aren’t around. The stiffness in her legs is less, she runs and prances more — it’s that triple dog thing. Here’s to many more years to our four legged friends.
