40 Years Ago, He Was 25

Dan Fogelberg would have turned 65 today had he not died in 2007 of prostate cancer.

I always try to remember to honor Dan on his birthday and anniversary of his death.

I also  think of my ol’ buddy, Bernie McGuire, who introduced me to Dan’s music.  In 1978-1981, we made a hobby  of covering most of the songs from the Captured Angel and Souvenirs records, including Morning Sky.

Occasionally, Elileen Dwyer, another “Mountie,” joined us, providing incredible harmonies.  What I wouldn’t give to go  back and just be able to play just one night at “The Rat”.

His music of the 1980’s and early 80’s is what attracted me. This live version of Morning Sky was recorded in 1976 at the famous Capitol Theatre. (BTW, if you are over 50 and consider yourself a fan of music, do yourself a favor and click on the Capitol Theatre link and see who played there “back in the day.”

I loved Dan Fogelberg and still play my original vinyl records, often. He had such a beautiful voice and was a very talented storyteller. Music is such a wonderful way to hold onto the memory of a very talented performer who seemed to become a friend over the decades. How nice to be reminded of his birthday, Ray.
