If you have been reading this blog for any period of time, you know that I play guitar in what best can be best described as a garage band of middle aged dads. (Some of the boys may take offense to that, sorry)
We get invited to play an event, we practice for a few weeks, play and then hibernate.
Our last time together was a pool party in June.
This weekend, Gavin was approached by the chairperson of “Barkaritaville”, which will be a big fundraiser for the Aiken SPCA next month.
The best known band in the area … a real band, was scheduled to play, but for some reason, recently backed out.
In a gesture of kindness, (and because it is an awesome opportunity) we will be the band for the event, even though someone else’s name is on the thousands of posters scattered around town. Hey, that’s the kind of guys we are.
This will be big fun for us and we will work hard over the next six weeks to tighten up our set lists.
I suppose we will need to learn Margaritaville and change the words a bit, but the game is on.
We start tomorrow night, 9/3 at The Wings Place, Aiken, with a “live practice”…the first time we will have played together in three months. We will be there from 7-10, so come on by and get some wings, beer and hear us play the guitar version of “chopsticks”.
Playing music keeps me feeling young, energized and young….especially young. It reminds me of the days I played in Joe’s Garage.
