Aiken, because of the Savannah River Site and associated companies that support their missions, has a plethora of engineers as residents.
There are so many that they even had a strong, political voice…back in the day. They fought and won when they went to the City of Aiken, contesting that the term “Engineer” should not be used to describe a firefighter whose job it is to drive the fire engine and pump water to the fire. Thus, in Aiken, guys like me were/are referred to “Driver-Operators”, not engineers because we didn’t have the advanced degrees.
Alas, once again, I digress.
They pick on and tease each other as do their wives. All in good nature, but often funny and true.
Here is a cartoon that was sent to me by a local, Forensic Scientist.
It seemed simple enough when his wife left a note for him to help prepare dinner that evening:
“Shepherd’s Pie needs to be taken out of the fridge and placed in the oven at 140 degrees.”
They are very analytical, (but fun) and I would not be surprised if this really happened.
Thanks, Carla.
