Fr. Alan McDonald asks the question, “Why do modern Catholic funeral rites glass over death and judgement and jump directly to heaven?
It has often concerned me that some priests seem to get very secular when it comes to funerals…or as Fr. McDonald would point out, they get “Happy-Clappy”.
How are “the faithful” supposed to be true to The Church when some of their leaders are not leading them in the right direction? Here is another, well thought out explanation.
Conversely, it is very frustrating when speaking to some Catholic famiy members regarding funeral plans when they ask for “I Did It My Way” as a recessional hymn. They just don’t understand and/or live their faith.
For the record, I do not want to come off as being “self-righteous” as I will stand up anywhere and admit I’m a sinner and sometimes “forget” to do what I should. As a matter of fact, I’ll go to the front of that line if asked.
Even if you are not Catholic or if you disagree with this postion on Catholic Funerals, you should click on the link to Fr. McDonald’s blog and then watch the six-minute video about music and death…extremely well produced and interesting.
