Opening Paragraphs

“My name is Aaron, though in the beginning I was called Arrow. My father’s face I cannot remember, for I was taken far away from him when I was eclipse-sunborn. Once he sent a word of promise that he would find me, that he would know me and love me as a father should love his child. He did not return from a last journey into the shadow, and thus he was unable to keep his word, though he held that word in his heart, even as his flesh passed into death. He was but one of the nameless who disappeared during that time”

Eclipse of the Sun, by Michael D. O’brien.
