My Youth Is Officially Over

The late Peppi Marchello

The late Peppi Marchello

It was with great sadness that I just learned of the death of Peppi Marchello, co-founder and front man of the band, The Good Rats.

Another story is here.

If I kept track of all the music I have listened to during my life and was able to generate a report, showing how much time I listened to each band, clearly the Rats would be at the top of the list. I often thought that as long as The Good Rats were still playing, I was still young.

My youth is officially over.

I recall hearing my first Rats song when I was sixteen…it was Victory in Space and I heard it on a 8-track player in a friends car.

That was thirty-seven years ago.

Their music was what I always listened to when I needed to make myself happy, sing loud by myself or use the steering wheel as a drum set. My wife and daughters were not fans.

The last time I saw the band was in February, 2013 when I was up visiting my parents…I always made a point of saying hi to Peppi and to let him know that I drove 750 miles to see them play.

RIP, Peppi…you were one of a kind.

There are numerous posts about The Good Rats on the blog, just type it in my search this blog box.
