Thinking Outside The Box

It is always interesting to see what someone not in our field thinks about what we do.

Granted, it’s a prerequisite in a dignified vocation, but I’ve always felt funeral directors are far too adept at appearing composed, lending to a false impression that it’s an “easy gig.” The general public doesn’t get to see the endless paperwork, hands-on facilities and livery maintenance, the calls during nights, holidays and weekends, working with (and often chasing after) a sometimes less than cooperative mix of physicians, cemeterians, municipal clerks and registrars… Funeral service is a spiritually rewarding vocation, but it’s not an endeavor for the faint of heart, or the lazy.
