The Final Day?

Today is Master’s Sunday…the climax of the biggest week of the year for Augusta, GA.

This year however, it looks as if there is a possibility that weather may impact the tournament, late in the day…and that is when the leaders are playing for the green jacket.

If so, it will be just one more thing that went wrong this year.

It has been an interesting week of bad rulings and bad pimento cheese.

Two of the biggest names at the Tournament, Tiger Woods and Guan Tianlang have been slapped….both with a bit of commentary from other golfers.

The consensus seems to be that Guan should not have received a penalty and that Tiger Woods, should have been disqualified from the tournament.

I have never been a TW fan and this (In my opinion and many others) blatant act of “looking the other way” is a disgrace to golf and The Masters. The video clearly shows he did it and then he even admitted he did it. Then he said it was a mistake… Tiger is the number one rated golfer in the world and he doesn’t know the rules? Fred Ridley, the spokesman for the Rules Committee said they reviewed the video and did not see a violation….well, everyone who watched the replay on TV saw it….it was ignored because of it being Tiger. How Fred was able to give that interview with a straight face is shocking.

Shame on them.

It will be interesting to see what the fallout will be if he wins…..personally, I would not be upset if he bogeys every hole.a_190x190

But to more important concerns…..the famous pimento cheese sandwiches are coming from a different vendor this year and the Augusta area is abuzz with the fact that no one seems to like the new ones….and the old vendor is selling them at their Wife Saver stores.

Jelly and Leslie Claire are on their way as I type this…hopefully the weather will hold and she will bring me back a pimento cheese sandwich (again) and I will give my opinion of a cheese sandwich that would have been tucked in a pocketbook, carried around for hours and probably rained on…I can’t wait.

All in all, not a stellar week for The National.

PS….my dollar is on Brandt Snedecker to wear the green jacket tonight…but would it not be great if Fred Couples pulled it off?

Ray, Tiger should not have been DQ’d. They did not inform him of the infraction until after he had signed his scorecard. Fred Ridley explained this. They initiallly ruled no foul then changed their minds. That’s what the rules of golf say.

    • Bill….thanks for being a long time reader…I appreciate your friendship, but we may need to agree to disagree on this one. The rules committee failed to take action on an obvious infraction…the fact that they opted to take no action, appears to me, to be the biggest error. Technically, you are correct, but the intent was to give him a pass for at least two possible reasons….Tiger makes them money and they didn’t want the liberal media talking about how the rich, white guys disqualified Tiger because they didn’t want a black guy closing in on Jack Nicklaus’s record….Maybe I am just being cynical, but that is how I see it.

Can’t wait to hear your take on the “new” pimento cheese! A little too much pepper in it for me! I will travel to North Augusta this week and get a “real” one from Wife Saver!
