Well, I thought I had heard it all…
This article, by Little Miss Funeral makes as much sense as anything I have ever been taught/read on the topic.
Lauren uses a simple, uniquely feminine experience, to describe a very complex subject…and she does it very well.
Early in my career and education, we were taught that the key to being a successful funeral director was to fill the role of “Grief counselor”.
As poorly trained as we were in this area, it was the “idea de jour”” that was finally going to allow us (funeral directors) to assume the position in the community that we all thought we deserved…(sarcasm added).
We tried taking a very complex & dynamic set of emotions and attempted to convince the world that it was a linear progression. (See DABDA in the article below).
It did not work.
Alas, I ramble….
When I read her article (below), I had to smile as this young funeral director, still early in her career, exhibited a keener insight than many of those who teach the subject. Refreshing.
Grief is like cutting yourself shaving
While on her blog, scroll through her other posts…”good stuff”.
Couldn’t have done a better job describing it–and I AM a grief counselor!!
