Hootie & The Blowfish got their start as a bar band at the University of South Carolina in the mid- 1980’s. I have friends who proudly tell of seeing them play at birthday parties in people’s back yards and in tiny, college town clubs.
Ten years of hard work and Ramen noodles paid off when they achieved the Best New Artist at the 1996 Grammmy’s.
All of a sudden, everyone knew about the band and it just happened to be the year that we moved to Columbia.
I got to see them play a few times locally, once with Sister Hazel, which was also having some new found success with “All For You”.
My wife got to know them while she worked at The University Club where the band were/are regular golfers.
(She also got to know Lou Holtz and claims that he told her she had one of the prettiest smiles he had ever seen)
Lots of great music over the years, but this is my favorite. (I don’t quite get the nuances of the video, but hey, I will just listen)
Great song by one of my favorites as well!!
