This I Did Not Know

Apparently, there are several colleges/universities that require their students be able to pass a swimming test prior to graduation.

Is that not what summer camp is for?

Is that not a “life skill” that should be learned early in life?…as opposed to being in your early twenties…when your parents are paying tens of thousands of dollars for your college education?

This, I did not know…which is one reason why I like the WSJ.

Not a bad idea to know how to swim, but who would have thought of it as a requirement for college graduation unless you were majoring in underwater treasure hunting!

Boy, does this bring back memories. When I was a freshman at Winthrop College in 1961, we could exempt swimming if we could float for five minutes! I CAN’T SWIM! But I can dog paddle! I floated around dog paddling while someone stood by the pool with a pole in case I couldn’t keep it up for five minutes. I exempted swimming class!
