The University of South Carolina (USC) moved up to being ranked #3 in the Country after embarrassing #5 ranked Georgia last night in front of a record breaking (85,199) crowd at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia.
The official capacity of the stadium is 80,250!
Congratulations to the team, the coaches and all the students at USC, (our daughter Elissa being one of them). Speaking of Elissa, she sent me a text from the student section last night, thanking me for paying for her to go there, (USC) so she could experience what happened last night. As long as she stays on the Dean’s list, we are happy to do so until she graduates next December.)
I was home alone watching the game and typically, I am a pretty sedate viewer of sporting events, but last night I was cheering and making a fuss just as if I had been one of the 85,199…except there were no lines for beer or the bathroom.
I also saw a tweet that announced that the entire Bulldog team was arrested for “Failure to Appear” as they shuffled out of the stadium to their busses after the game.
The “Old Ball Coach” has finally developed his dream team and season tickets are much harder to get than when I had them when they went 0-11 (but, then coach Brad Scott appeared in some great Bar-B-Q commercials). I recall moving to Columbia in 1996, just as the season was getting underway and being a little taken back, as the father of three, young daughters, with ” Go Cocks” everywhere you looked….but we have gotten used to it.
Check this out. It is a few years old, but it still is a great song….Go Cocks!
