Big (?) News From Aiken

In this morning’s Aiken Standard there is an article that mentions that I have taken the steps that assure an organized succession of ownership at my business.

How often do we see this?

George Funeral Home Sold, Director to Stay To Better Aid Families

I wish to take a few minutes to expound on Haley’s article.

Back during the first week in June, I came to the realization that since my three daughters had career paths that did not include funeral service, I needed to start thinking about what I should do as I wasn’t getting any younger. What would happen to George’s if I broke my leg?….had a heart attack?…died? Those thoughts, combined with several others, moved me in the direction of considering the transition.

A few weeks later, when a long time employee left to be closer to home and family, I knew it was the right choice and continued to move forward.

I may or may not share some insight into the process as time goes on, but for now, suffice it to say that I am extremely happy with the fact that Alicia and I are joining the Foundation Partners family, my first choice from the very beginning, although we had interest from five other companies.

We get to stay in Aiken and will be able to dedicate our time to doing what we do best…helping hurting people, leaving the paperwork and regulatory “stuff” to others.

One of the key things to look for in a good leader is if he or she has a succession plan in place, meaning they can see the bigger picture even when they are not in it. Sounds like you have thought things out and are ready to take another step in this journey we call life. Best wishes –
