On Wednesday, The Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation kicks off our 25th anniversary with two special screenings of the movie, “Trial By Fire: Lives Re-Forged. The afternoon event is open to the public. If you are free around 1pm, head over to Augusta State University, uh, I mean Georgia Regents University Maxwell Theatre to take the movie in.
Read this editorial from this past Sunday’s Augusta Chronicle for the whole story. (bonus points to those who can find the typo)… A Firm Foundation
Over the years I have served on dozens of boards and even chaired a few, but none have captured my immagination like this one has.
I also posted about it here: Scars Are Like Tattoos

Actually, I noticed a few errors (sorry, I was an English teacher):
1. The nationally heralded film includes the story of young Connor McKemey of South
Carolina, who like Badke was burned over more than 86 percent of his body in a patio heater explosion at his home in 2008.
Would sound better: 1. The nationally heralded film includes the story of young Connor McKemey of South Carolina who, like Badke, was burned over more than 86 percent of his body in a patio heater explosion at his home in 2008.
2. “I see this as a great opportunity for the community to really sort of get inside the skin of a burn survivor,” Maypole said. “And to have a much better understanding not only of what it’s like to go through that horrific event, but the courage it takes to continue to live in a world where so much emphasis is placed on physical attractiveness. Truly to understand a little bit about the real strength of the human spirit. Because, that’s really what this film is all about.
This is simply awkward, and there are many things things that would mave made it “cleaner” (rearranging the quote, using semicolons, using transitional words).
3. The last paragraph may have a subject-verb problem, but that’s a tricky one because it’s a quote (and you have to quote exactly.)
Anyway, I was up for the challenge. Now you see why my boys HATE for me to proofread their papers
Ah, ask & you shall receive. I was referring to your #1 comment.
Thanks for taking the challenge and we are looking forward to meeting y’all one of these days…RJV
