An article from FirefighterNation.com in which leaders of the beleaguered City of Detroit are considering letting outside firefighters supplement their paid ranks. 
From a safety point of view, it is a disaster waiting to happen…but there would be no shortage of “volunteers” because that is what we love to do.
There were a couple of times I got to “ride along” with different fire departments/aeromedical programs while vacationing, but riding along as an observer, not an active firefighter or EMT, although I did get to help on a few calls.
