He Was A Good Fish

Reptar, died July 11, 2012…He was a good fish

Sad news came from Columbia, SC today, announcing the death of Reptar, the famous Beta fish of L B Dantzler, third baseman of the USC Baseball team.

Official cause of death was not provided, but possibly, the stress of learning that Coach Ray Tanner was stepping down as baseball coach to take over the responsibilities of USC Athletic Director was just too much for Reptar, who was still recuperating from his road trip to Omaha last month in the cab of the team’s equipment truck.

I posted a few columns about Reptar, who captured my imagination, along with thousands of other Carolina Baseball fans. Here…. and here….and here.

Andy Warhol would be proud of how Reptar made use of his “Fifteen Minutes of Fame” and it sure was fun while it lasted.

Details of his final disposition have not been formally announced, but I hear that the USC School bookstore has new T shirts that say, “The Fish Has Been Flushed Reptar, RIP”

I must say that he made my summer more interesting and fun.

May his memory be eternal.

Proud to have one of these…destined to be a family heirloom
